WEST PALM BEACH ARTHOUSE429 LECTURE SERIES FEATURED KATHY MOSES & BRUCE HELANDER

ARTHOUSE429 presented a Sunday Lecture Series March 23rd on the Intersection of Outsider, Folk & Street Art with special guest speakers Bruce Helander and Kathy Moses Shelton. Helander, an American artist, curator, art critic, writer and editor, and Moses, an art dealer who authored Outsider Art of the South and Helen LaFrance Folk Art Memories, discussed works of art in the current West Palm Beach gallery show, Detour. The artists featured in the show challenge and blur lines between traditional and non-traditional art making practices. Moses focused on the work of two African-American self-taught Southern artists, Helen LaFrance and Bessie Harvey, while Helander connected the dots between various artists in the show, all of whom are contemporary.

BOCA RATON CONCOURS d'ELEGANCE ANTIQUE CAR SHOW FEBRUARY 2014

Speaking of antiques, spent yesterday afternoon at the Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance, probably the best car show I've ever been to, on the grounds of the gorgeous Boca Raton Hotel & Resort. The restorations were out of sight, and there were a few custom cars that were truly unusual. Wish I had a better picture of this one...a custom car built around a 1928 Rolls Royce Meteor engine on a 1920s Cadillac frame and suspension, with aluminum sheet metal panels and wood torpedo body.
Even saw car man Wayne Carini from Chasing Classic cars on the Velocity channel. A girl can dream!

WEST PALM BEACH ANTIQUES FESTIVAL FEB. 28-MAR. 2 COMING UP

Down here in gorgeous Palm Beach getting ready to do the West Palm Beach Antiques Festival at the Fairgrounds off Southern Blvd. Show opens Fri. Feb. 28 for early buying at 9 a.m. Show continues Sat. & Sun. March 1st & 2nd. It's well worth your time, because there are treasures to be had if you're patient and diligent. Everyone in the area, as far as Miami, comes to this show. I have shopped very well at this show & hope to again this month.
Here I am last month holding a Victorian ivory handled cane...a great find, and wearing a pair of vintage bamboo sunglasses I bought at the show. Drop by the Shelton Gallery booth 681. Would love to see friendly snowbirds!
